# Artists & Makers — Coverage Checklist

*Price the year, not the piece.* Work through this before you shop or renew.

## Get your number right
- [ ] Start from: all sales: platforms, fairs, commissions, galleries
- [ ] If your studio holds real inventory, let a preparer set the COGS treatment and estimate from the number they bless.
- [ ] Add all other household income (spouse W-2, side work) — the marketplace wants one combined figure

## The traps in your line of work
- [ ] Have an answer for: A sales dashboard that looks like income until COGS and fees do their work
- [ ] Have an answer for: Cash fair weekends counted casually until a 1099-K forces the issue
- [ ] Have an answer for: Premiums due in the months between markets
- [ ] Have an answer for: Kiln, torch, and blade risk carried with no coverage at all

## Fast facts to remember
- **1099-K** — is gross, not income
- **COGS** — materials deduct as pieces sell
- **Fair season** — funds the whole year

## Before you enroll
- [ ] List your doctors and check them against the plan network
- [ ] List prescriptions and check the formulary
- [ ] Compare at least two plans on deductible AND network, not premium alone
